MEO launches the world's first sustainable telecommunications and energy service

MEO launches the world's first sustainable telecommunications and energy service

After launching the first integrated triple play service (TV + Net + Landline) in 2007 and adding cell phones six years later, MEO continues its history of innovation and market disruption and today announces the 3rd generation of convergence in what is the world's first sustainable telecommunications and energy service. telecommunications and energy. In the name of consolidating its leadership, which it has held since 2020, and of imperative growth in a market that is expected to be even more competitive at national and global level, the strategic bet is to combine the synergies of MEO and MEO Energia.

MEO is once again innovating with the aim of leading the digital transformation and the energy transformation, combining energy, exclusively produced from 100% renewable sources, with technological innovation, supported by the country's largest infrastructure network. "We are a leading brand, with creativity and competence at the service of innovation, which has always dictated the path of the market by anticipating the needs of the Portuguese.

To the competitiveness of current and new players, to the challenges of a high-investment sector and to a global market, we respond with the strategic synergy of two strong assets that only a leader can offer. MEO "gains" energy and presents itself even stronger with a clear ambition: to lead the country's digital transition and energy transition. It is under this assumption that MEO assumes itself as the world's first operator with a global offer of 100% green telecommunications and electricity services, with cross-benefits for customers in the telecom and energy components, also contributing to the country's goal of carbon neutrality. MEO thus continues to fulfill its role as a leader of change, in its four areas of activity: innovation, sustainability, technology and people," says Ana Figueiredo, CEO of Altice Portugal.

New Generation of Convergence

So, as of today, all MEO packages now include a joint telecom plus energy offer, with cross-benefits for MEO and MEO Energia customers:

- Discount on the estimated average electricity consumption of MEO equipment (a box, a router and two smartphones), which represents a saving of €2.95/month.

- Additional discounts on the energy bill, of one cent/kWh for MEO fixed service customers (for a monthly consumption of 250kWh, this is equivalent to a saving of €2.91 with VAT for power up to 6.90kVA and €3.08 with VAT for the rest)

- Doubling of fixed internet speed, as well as doubling of mobile data and MEOS points, when subscribing to the MEO Energia service

- 100% sustainable energy (by using electricity produced exclusively from renewable sources - wind, hydro, solar, geothermal and others - MEO helps the Portuguese contribute to reducing their ecological footprint and preserving the planet)

The total saving can be up to 25% of the energy bill, which represents around €16 on the average bill (€64) for a MEO Energia residential customer with 250 kWh and a 6.9kVA meter.

In other words, as of today, the more MEO products customers subscribe to, the greater the savings they will benefit from. To the benefits of savings and sustainability, MEO also adds convenience - two main services and a single entity - and simplicity - all the information available in a single app. In addition, the brand also presents an innovative concept guaranteeing that its customers will never run out of energy, even when on the move.

The first national network of smartphone chargers(BRICK powered by MEO) has been launched and is available for rental in MEO stores and other points of relevance to customers throughout the country (e.g. festivals and restaurants). Customers can pick up a powerbank in Porto and return it in Faro, for example.

MEO continues to make history under the motto of innovation and sustainability in the name of a common goal: the digital transition and the energy transition, combining the best value proposition for the consumer and the best customer experience in two strategic sectors of the country's economy.

Communication Strategy: a new era has arrived at MEO

After positioning itself as one of the main players in the telecommunications sector over the last 30 years, with its business constantly launching new products and services, MEO is now entering a new phase. The synergy between telecommunications and electricity services offers not only convenience, but also simplicity, efficiency and sustainability to the daily lives of the Portuguese.

This new phase for MEO is accompanied by a repositioning of the brand, which has taken on a new graphic and visual identity and a communication strategy, with a greater focus on digital and on simplifying the message. The claim 'Your world needs synergy' summarizes the brand's new positioning and this "new" MEO is, once again, a world pioneer by being the first brand to present a telecommunications offer with green energy. With greater simplicity in all its communication, in closer proximity to the consumer, in line with the promise of its own signature - MEO Humanizes You - the brand is strengthened with a new visual language, using a new, more vivid and energetic colour palette, based on blue, green, lime, white and grey, and new, younger and more disruptive graphic codes.

From the small screen to the big screen (digital first): humor and social networks

The communication stems from a digital inspiration that contaminates all the other brand touchpoints, in a new positioning that is accompanied by a new host and native-digital protagonist, comedian Guilherme Geirinhas. With a record based on a relaxed and intelligent approach, which has won over the Portuguese and who has a track record in stand-up comedy, presenting podcasts, author of the series "Vai ficar tudo bem", Geirinhas gained new notoriety by inviting the candidates for the legislative elections to a series of interviews ("Bom Partido") in a digital production on Youtube, with a completely different approach to the usual record of classic political interviews.

The TV campaign

Tomorrow, May 23rd, a multi-media campaign kicks off with a new institutional film under the motto "It's synergy that your world needs", referring to the goal of leadership in the digital and energy transitions. This launch campaign features a narrative starring the main actors of nature - its elements - and the actors of real life - humans - presenting a new graphic line that merges and mirrors the coexistence of these two universes - telecom and green energy.

The film adopts a strong visual and aesthetic language and a dynamic rhythm, combining images of elements of the planet with people. This dynamism evokes energy, sustainability, the planet and the synergies between people, nature and MEO. It is the brand's commitment to offering customers an integrated experience where connectivity and energy come together to create a better and more efficient world, with benefits for everyone and above all for the planet.

The message accompanies the disruptive movement of this new MEO stage and dares to say "If you're not looking for anything new and revolutionary, then this ad isn't for you", inviting the Portuguese to continue on this path of leadership because "If you're in charge, this ad is for you". This film will be complemented by three commercial offer films, which materialize the communication of the various cross-benefits for the client.

With a strong multi-media presence, this campaign will be remembered by all.
