Glasses for the visually impaired, video analytics applied to operational security or a system for automating agroforestry machines are some of the 12 solutions selected for the final of the second edition of the 5G Challenge. MEO Empresas' technological innovation competition aims to recognize and reward new solutions and services that exploit the potential of 5G, the new generation of mobile networks.
Developed to respond to challenges in areas such as industry, energy and telecommunications, health, aeronautics, sports or the environment, solutions centered on artificial intelligence and augmented reality, automation and the Internet of Things have all made it through to the final stage of the competition. The finalists were chosen from around 50 applications from countries such as Portugal, Ireland, England and the United States, among others. A record number in the history of the initiative.
With prizes totaling 30,000 euros, the finalists are competing in three categories: the 5G Innovation Grand Prize, with a prize of 15,000 euros; the Best Portuguese Solution, with a prize of 10,000 euros and the Sustainability and Social Impact Prize, with a prize of 5,000 euros.

The companies and startups selected for the final, whose innovative solutions respond to problems in areas such as industry, energy and telecommunications, health, aeronautics, sport or the environment, will defend their solutions before a jury made up of members of Altice Portugal's Executive Committee, customers and partners, big names in the sector and the technology and innovation ecosystem: Fátima Caçador, Director of home dos Bits, Hélder Almeida, Operations Director of Efacec Power Solutions, José Henriques, Chief Technology Officer/CIO of Crédito Agrícola, José Pedro Nascimento, Chief Technology Officer of Altice Portugal and Nuno Nunes, Chief Sales Officer B2B of Altice Portugal. The final pitch will take place on June 25, 2024.
Driving the digital transformation of companies and organizations, the finalist solutions respond to the challenge proposed for the 2024 edition: finding solutions for business customers, leveraged by 5G connectivity, with a special focus on solutions that exploit advanced 5G features such as network slicing.
