Portugal scores points in technological innovation through Altice Labs

The National Institute of Industrial Property has granted two new patents to Portugal for the development of the GPON double SFP and the XGS-PON double SFP+, both created by Altice Labs. These innovations consist of the connection of two optical fibers in the same port of the same equipment and make it possible to double the number of customers connected by each fiber.

These two new developments revolutionize the way networks are deployed in the field by doubling their capacity, making it possible to serve twice as many customers as with previous technology. In addition to increasing the bandwidth per physical interface of the equipment in the telecommunications center, these converters developed by Altice Labs also increase the density of ports per equipment, which provides a range of more than 40 km. The third patent, granted in the USA, concerns a new system and method for supporting permanent HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) connections. In other protocols used to manage equipment, it is necessary for the management system to send a request to the equipment so that it can connect to the system. Only then is it possible for the manager to send a certain desired action to the device. In practice, with this new patent, this connection is not closed, which allows the server to carry out actions on a device immediately, increasing the speed and efficiency of device management.

As Altice is the only telecommunications operator in Portugal to have a large laboratory dedicated to technological research, winning new patents is synonymous with consolidating a position of leadership in innovation and positioning Portugal at the forefront of technology.
