"Digital Care 360+" will transform people's lives in the social sector

The Santander Portugal Foundation, MEO Empresas, Sioslife and Samsung, with the support of the Union of Portuguese Misericórdias and the Portuguese Telemedicine Association, presented this Tuesday a project aimed at accelerating and boosting the digital transformation of Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS).

Developed in the field of care for the elderly, "Digital Care 360+" is a digitalization project that aims to analyze the positive impact of technology in the social sector, namely on the work of professionals and on the lives of users and their families.

It also aims to provide the social sector with greater efficiency and profitability, in order to guarantee the best services and care for its users. To this end, it takes advantage of the high level of know-how, experience and unification of the various technological solutions developed by MEO Empresas, which is responsible for providing SmartAL - a solution focused on monitoring the health of the elderly and chronically ill at a distance; by Sioslife, which is responsible for developing and managing the customer support and process management platform; by Samsung, as the supplier of the devices and equipment; and by the Santander Portugal Foundation's desire to have a positive impact on the community.

In order to understand and analyze the impact that digital transformation can have on the social sector, a pilot project was implemented in two IPSSs, with Residential Facilities for the Elderly (ERPI), Day Care Centers and Home Support Services - Santa home da Misericórdia de Sesimbra and Centro Social e Paroquial de Raimonda. The preliminary results already obtained show the importance and impact of digitalization within these institutions, demonstrating the positive change in the lives of the elderly who now have more support in monitoring their quality of life and any health problems, as well as a significant improvement in the level of work of the caregivers.

  • 44% of users with daily use of new technologies - average use/users over 35h/month.

  • 38% of users with daily use of new technologies - average use/user over 28h/month.
  • Monthly average of 2490 remote measurements of biometric data.

"Digital Care 360º" aims to be a response to the natural need for the social sector to evolve. Today, digital transformation is a reality in most sectors of society, with many advantages and benefits in its use. As such, the social and health sectors also need to develop solutions to reconcile the provision of health care and social support, with features that enable closer monitoring.
