A cloud infrastructure for health data for research purposes was the project that brought together MEO Empresas, the Champalimaud Foundation and BMD Software.
Digitizing health, putting the patient at the center of the entire digital transformation process, is the company's motto. It has positioned itself as a benchmark in this area, focusing on the development of Innovation, Development and Research projects, centered on digital platforms and applications to support health and well-being.
After making history with the first breast cancer surgery using 5G technology, which brought Portugal and Spain together, MEO Empresas and the Champalimaud Foundation have materialized their desire to continue working together with the creation of a standardized system for interoperability and cloud storage of patient clinical data, duly anonymized and secure. In other words, a health data storage system with a digital connection to the Champalimaud Foundation's clinical systems, based on a strategic vision of creating value in health through data science.
But while at this stage, the data is intended for researchers who want to study it, in the future, the aim is to make it available to clinicians and patients themselves, to be consulted via the internet, anywhere in the world.
This infrastructure, optimized and customized for the Champalimaud Foundation's Breast Unit, offers a range of benefits and added value to medicine, and is another important step forward in this area. By allowing data to be shared with and between researchers, it opens up a window of opportunity for research into artificial intelligence in the area of health, making it possible to speed up clinical studies that facilitate the implementation of these new technologies at the service of patients and doctors.
In addition to fostering technological innovation and the sharing of knowledge, this project will also provide the opportunity to discover new experiences and new areas where technology and medicine intersect, in a new ecosystem that guarantees the creation of a new branch of medicine for a new era of personalization of treatment through Precision Medicine. This concept aims to gain space and relevance for technology and applications in this innovative health ecosystem to combat chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancer, whether through 5G infrastructures and technologies, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Cloud, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence with a view to building the Operating Room of the Future.
Today, as on the first day, MEO Empresas' challenge continues: to prepare companies to reach their true potential, generate greater value and create a more positive impact on the market and the world.
