Altice Portugal, through Altice Wholesale Solutions, the business unit responsible for developing and managing international telecommunications services, today inaugurated its new International Network Interconnection Center.
Called Altice LdV, this new space is an open and neutral alternative for the interconnection of national and international networks in Portugal, offering scale and competitiveness to the Lisbon metropolitan area. The Altice Center, which is part of a campus that occupies a total area of 11,000 square meters, consists of a 3,000 square meter building.
In terms of sustainability and energy efficiency, the project readapts an existing infrastructure to meet current needs, and the new space is powered by 100% renewable energy. Located in Linda-a-Velha, in one of the first telecommunications centers of the former Marconi, the new Interconnection Center has all the technical and technological characteristics of reliability, redundancy and security necessary and required of a critical infrastructure.
The choice of Linda-a-Velha for the location of the new International Grid Interconnection Center went through a rigorous selection process, taking several aspects into account:
- Rehabilitation of an existing infrastructure, with a view to sustainability;
- Proximity to important international infrastructures, such as the submarine cable stations in Carcavelos, Seixal and Sesimbra, the Alfouvar Satellite Center or the Prior Velho Data Center;
- Located in the Lisbon metropolitan area;
- Potential as a node in Altice's international network.
This investment of more than 3 million euros, co-financed by the European Union, aims to house international telecommunications networks, leveraging the ease of interconnection between the facility and the mooring stations of submarine cables, teleports, long-distance land networks and other data centers.
This Altice Wholesale Solutions Center is a landmark investment that continues the company's technological transformation cycle, which began almost a century ago, as the only Portuguese operator with global experience in this industry, with support infrastructures and teams with specialized and qualified knowledge.
With a significant history in the international telecommunications context, Altice Portugal continues to be an active player in this industry, ensuring, due to the privileged geographical position of its infrastructures, connectivity across the Atlantic and Mediterranean, Europe, Africa and the Americas, by space, air, land or submarine.
In addition to strengthening their prominent place on the international communications map, their know-how, technical capabilities and specialized skills have enabled them to attract foreign investment in the global submarine cable and telecommunications satellite industry.
Today, with this new International Network Interconnection Center, Altice Portugal contributes to placing Lisbon among the most important European cities in this industry, giving it a prominent role in this international and global ecosystem.
