On October 1st, the period for submitting applications for the 7th edition of the Altice International Innovation Award (AIIA), one of the largest innovation awards in the technology sector, closed. This year it will once again select new protagonists from a group of 116 candidates. This edition of the AIIA, whose winners will be announced on November 21, once again distinguishes, promotes and supports technological talent, reinforcing Altice's role as an innovative group.
Of the 116 applications submitted to the AIIA organization, marked by the diversity and innovation of the themes, nine finalist projects will be selected, which will compete for 1st place in each of the three categories in the competition: Academy, Startups and Includes by Altice Foundation.
The aim of the AIIA is to reward final-year PhD students and startups in the incubation phase who present innovative projects in technological areas relevant to Altice's core business - such as Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Augmented Reality, 5G, Internet of Things, Smart Cities, Smart Living, Big Data, eHealth, Digital Content, Networks of the Future, Over the Top Services, Security, Blockchain, Quantum Technologies, among others. The 7th edition will also highlight projects that promote digital inclusion and accessibility, under the "Includes" category, promoted by the Altice Foundation.

In the last stage of the Award, the nine finalists will defend their projects before the Grand Jury, chaired by Ana Figueiredo, CEO of Altice Portugal, in the following categories:
Startup
  • Prize money of €50,000.
  • Possibility of a proof of concept (PoC) with Altice.
  • Access to Startup Lisboa's incubation services.

Academia
  • Prize money of €25,000.

"Includes by Altice Foundation"
  • Cash prize of €20,000.

One of the novelties of this edition is the partnership between Altice Portugal and Startup Lisboa, to support candidate startups in the incubation phase of their projects with a view to raising capital.
Also in this edition, and for the 7th consecutive year, the National Innovation Agency (ANI) is once again joining the AIIA to award the Born from Knowledge (BfK) distinction to the best "born from knowledge" finalist project resulting from research and development (R&D) activities, rewarding it with a cash prize of €2,500, along with the Tree of Knowledge, a work of art symbolizing the enhancement of national scientific and technological knowledge.
All the news and information about the AIIA is available on the Prize's official website and on the dedicated pages of the media partners: Revista Sábado and TEK SAPO.
