During the months of July, August and September, more than just giving music to the public, MEO will be offering new experiences and sensations, all through its technology and innovation. It's a project that's been a year in the making, with a team of over a hundred people.
In 2023 MEO launches the M Festivals pack. For the first time, the five MEO festivals are united under a common ideology, not only through communication, but also through a commercial offer that makes it possible to buy a ticket for all MEO festivals.
The first pack with the best music from north to south and the islands allows the purchase of tickets for two or more MEO naming festivals and access to a range of advantages, including exclusive merchandising, additional mobile data and benefits such as discounts on tickets for the 2024 editions.
Proving that MEO festivals are unique events in the summer itinerary of thousands of Portuguese, in addition to the music, there is also an unprecedented set of actions and animations carried out by the various brands of Altice Portugal (MEO, MOCHE and SAPO), along with posters that include big names from the international and national music scene.
MEO Marés Vivas - July 14-16, 2023
Just a few days before the start of the biggest music festival in the north of the country, everything is already in place for the long-awaited three intense days - and nights - of celebrating music at the Madalena Camping Park in Vila Nova de Gaia.
With home expected to be full, MEO has reinforced the space in terms of technology and infrastructure, providing the entire venue with free Wi-Fi and 4G and 5G mobile network coverage, by installing a fiber optic network, mobile network stations and network devices for full coverage of the event.
MEO Southwest - August 9 to 13, 2023
Once again at Herdade da home Branca, on the inspiring Alentejo coast, the 25th edition of MEO Sudoeste is bringing big names in music to Portugal. In the year in which it celebrates its silver anniversary, there are countless new features awaiting festival-goers in what continues to be the best vacation week of their lives.
One of the great novelties of this edition is the implementation of a cashless system, along with other payment methods. Supported by the strategy of greater digitalization of the event, this option is designed to reduce the circulation of cash on the festival grounds. Also in this area of sustainability, MEO Sudoeste continues to focus on recycling and environmental awareness, through a series of actions and initiatives that will take place during the festival.
Here too, MEO continues to invest in improvements for all festival-goers in terms of technological infrastructure:
- The entire festival area (show area, parking lots and camping) is covered with optical fibre that supports, with all the new communication technologies, the broadcasting and production circuits of the media partners, organization, accredited national and international press and partners;
- 5G and WiFi coverage throughout the venue's 16 hectares - MEO Sudoeste was the first music event to offer free Wi-Fi throughout the venue, a unique feat in Portugal's festival scene.
- As in previous editions, MEO will have cell phone battery charging containers available for festival-goers throughout the grounds and campsite.
This entire communications infrastructure, designed from scratch to meet the volume of information required at a festival of this size, was the basis for last year's figures, which included more than 160 km of state-of-the-art fiber optics to guarantee a traffic consumption of more than 35 terabytes.
MEO Monte Verde - August 10-12, 2023
With yet another festival in its own right, this time in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, MEO Monte Verde returns on August 10, 11 and 12, 2023 to Praia do Monte Verde, in the north of the island of São Miguel. The event, which has stood out as one of the biggest and most popular festivals in the Azores, will also have various sporting activities associated with the event, in what will be the long-awaited return of the Azorean festival to the calendar of major national events.
MEO Kalorama - August 31 to September 2, 2023
After a first edition that exceeded all expectations, 2023 promises to be just as unforgettable. With a unique identity, MEO Kalorama is the first festival of a new generation, bringing together music, urban art and sustainability practices and principles.
A signatory of the Portuguese Charter for Diversity and Inclusion and in line with the UN's sustainable development goals, MEO Kalorama is inherently concerned with the inclusion of all audiences, reflected in actions and initiatives to this end. This includes the existence of non-binary toilets throughout the venue, the integration of young people with special needs into the staff and organization, the offer of tickets to people in need for access to culture, a space dedicated to deaf people, waste separation and recycling campaigns at the festival, the donation of leftover food and materials at the end of the event and the involvement of the local community in the staff and artistic programming.
In terms of technological infrastructure, there will be a technological reinforcement of the festival with state-of-the-art fiber optics, guaranteeing WiFi coverage as well as a 5G network throughout the venue. The first edition saw over 7 terabytes of traffic, with 5G traffic generating 1TB of data. MEO was also responsible for ensuring the communications of the organization, sponsors, press and media partners.
The technological success of the first edition of MEO Kalorama was due to the commitment of the MEO teams responsible for setting up and monitoring all the infrastructures. This year it has taken another step towards innovation by creating MEO Kalorama in the Metaverse.
MEO Sons do Mar - September 8th and 9th
Continuing to mark the cultural agenda in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, set against the idyllic backdrop of the bay of Funchal, MEO Sons do Mar brings artists of national renown, providing experiences of great proximity, both due to the characteristics of the venue and the region itself.
Each edition celebrates music, experiences, unity, sharing and emotion. MEO's support also aims to promote the brand's connection to Madeira and all Madeirans, enhancing the festival through technology and infrastructure, offering the best experience to visitors.
Music is an integral part of MEO's life and strategy, a territory where it now has a unique presence, whether it's supporting events, concerts and festivals, or naming the biggest national concert halls and supporting artists. These are reasons enough to give MEO a unique distinction and legitimacy in music, like no other brand. A unique legitimacy marked by humanization and technology.
