As of today, users of the Lisbon Metro's Red line have access to MEO's ultra-fast 5G mobile network. For the first time, MEO is offering 5G experiences on the Lisbon Underground, allowing its customers faster data connections and better internet access experiences.
In collaboration with Metropolitano de Lisboa, and for the first time in Portugal, MEO deployed the 5G network in the metro and also reinforced the 4G mobile network, providing dedicated coverage along the tunnels and in the metro stations.
Users of these stations will thus be able to make calls, stream, share, download and upload with greater speed and reliability, improving the way they communicate, work and entertain themselves while traveling.
This process of modernizing the technological infrastructure on the remaining Lisbon Metro lines will be completed by 2025.
This implementation is part of Metropolitano de Lisboa's infrastructure innovation and modernization project. "It is important for Metropolitano de Lisboa to continue working to develop solutions that meet the needs and expectations of our customers, continuously improving the mobility service we provide. In a highly digital age, the availability of real-time information is increasingly essential to improve the experience of current and future customers of this metro network, thus contributing to more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility," said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Metropolitano de Lisboa, Vitor Domingues dos Santos.
