The influx of young people from all over the world to Lisbon is being reflected in MEO's roaming data, with the operator detecting an increase of more than double what it had recorded at the beginning of July.
In what is the biggest event of the year in Portugal, where around 1 million pilgrims are expected, the impact began to be felt even before the celebration of the inaugural Mass, which took place in Lisbon's Parque Eduardo VII (Colina do Encontro), and this was also seen in data traffic.
In the days leading up to Pope Francis' arrival in Lisbon, the data traffic associated with the event already amounted to more than 56 TB, of which more than 16 TB were processed by MEO's 5G network.
As for voice traffic, the figures are just as high. MEO recorded more than 204,000 minutes of calls in just one day yesterday. That's more than 3,400 hours, almost 142 days of communications, in just 24 hours, in Parque Eduardo VII alone.
In order to guarantee the best connectivity to the biggest event ever in Portugal, MEO is ensuring a technological and network mega-operation, with a specialized team of three hundred people.
