IoT Challenge 2022 winning solutions go hand in hand with 5G connectivity

With a focus on 5G connectivity and the opportunities that technology will bring to the business ecosystem, the 12 projects competing in the 7th edition of the IoT Challenge respond to challenges in the areas of City Management, Mobility and Logistics, Health and Wellbeing, Education, Energy Efficiency, Environment and Circular Economy, Industry or Retail and Services. This year, the jury was made up of Nuno Nunes, Chief Sales Officer/ B2B at Altice Portugal; João Teixeira, Chief Technology Officer at Altice Portugal; Diogo Lopes, Communications & Security Manager at Jerónimo Martins; José Galvão, IT Director at the Impresa Group and Luís Rodrigues, Director of Startup Braga.   

The winners  

BlueEye Handsfree, RedZinc Company BlueEye Handsfree consists of a wearable video solution that allows the real-time transmission of the point of view of professionals on the move (paramedics, community nurses, doctors) to remote medical specialists while helping their patients. The integrated solution consists of a lightweight wearable camera to capture live video, the BlueEye smartphone app with 5G mobile connectivity and the BlueEye Hot Desk residing in the Cloud to remotely access the live video.

MTI Smart Room, Empresa Managing the Intelligence MTI Smart Room is a solution that uses IoT and AI for the global tourist accommodation market, to increase energy efficiency in the accommodation unit. In terms of hardware, non-intrusive IoT devices have been developed that are easy to install and configure and work with any brand of air conditioning.  

Spotlite, Aethra Company The Spotlite solution consists of a risk monitoring system for infrastructures based on satellite data, IoT sensors and digital models (digital twins), providing a large-scale analysis of the structural stability of these infrastructures. It is a system that works as an online platform designed to serve the needs of various industries, namely the management of transport infrastructures (road and rail), energy or mining.       

In this 7th edition, an honorary prize was also awarded to 5G Stream Live, a 5G solution for the instant acquisition of images and technical data from vehicles, enabling, among other scenarios, remote and automatic action in real time in the event of an emergency. This project is led by KRS (Kevin Reimann Saraiva Team). Nuno Nunes, CSO B2B at Altice Portugal, emphasizes the importance of this project, explaining that "the IoT Challenge has been gaining ground and notoriety among the business community, as it is an opportunity to create innovative solutions that will have an impact on tomorrow. 

When we created this competition, we were aware that we would bring together and identify the best IoT professionals, the most disruptive ideas and encourage economic recovery and the digital transformation of our country. It's been 7 years of history, which translates into leadership in products and solutions that improve the lives of people and companies." In addition to the offer of three Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 128GB 5G, the three winning teams will also see their IoT solution integrated into the Altice Empresas Products & Services portfolio.  

In its seven editions, the IoT Challenge has already impacted around 220 participants, 80 companies and awarded 24 winners, who have contributed to strengthening the Portuguese market for Internet of Things solutions. Through this competition, Altice Empresas recognizes and rewards the best technological talent in Portugal, providing the national business community with unique tools so that they can continue their digital transformation process. Increasingly, technology plays a key role for companies, people and society in general. Combining innovation, technology and research with differentiating solutions has been the path that Altice Empresas has been following, allowing it to position itself as a partner of excellence for small and medium-sized companies in the country.
