The history of the Web Summit in Lisbon includes the more than 288 Terabytes of traffic generated and the more than 51,000 unique devices connected per day registered over the course of its five editions (not counting 2020, given the event's online format). These figures demonstrate the quality and resilience of Altice Portugal's infrastructures, the experience and know-how acquired at major national events, as well as the work done by the company to promote innovation and national talent.
Altice Portugal ready to make history
Altice Portugal has provided the venues where the Web Summit is taking place (Altice Arena and FIL) with full coverage of high-density fixed, mobile and WiFi networks, appropriate to the demands and international scale of the event, which this year is expecting 70,000 more participants. For the first time, the entire event site will be covered with 5G, which will provide visitors with even faster coverage, with less latency in communications and more robust mobile networks. It should be remembered that the 2019 edition of the Web Summit was marked by the first 5G video call in Portugal and saw the Altice Arena become the first Arena in Portugal and one of the first in Europe to be covered with this technology.
For the 2022 edition, the highlights are:
- Capacity to support 150,000 devices simultaneously over the wireless network
- Around 50 km of network and fiber optic cable installed
- Installation of more than 700 WiFi antennas, 400 Access Points and 300 switches throughout the event
- Reinforced 5G coverage at Altice Arena and FIL
In an action that has taken more than two months to prepare and involves a team of more than 160 employees, 100 of whom are from the technical areas, the supervision of the entire fixed and mobile network will be carried out in two geographically redundant locations to monitor the event.
In Altice Portugal's War Room, installed on site at the venue, there will be a team prepared to intervene immediately, in case of need, and which will be in close and permanent coordination with the management and supervision center based in Picoas. Teams dedicated 24x7 to the supervision and monitoring of the Wireless, TV, Wired and Mobile networks and responsible for the performance of three kilometers of optical fiber and another 44 kilometers of network cables.
MEO and SAPO take Web Summit everywhere
Over the course of four days, the biggest and best technology event on the planet will once again feature live broadcasts of all the center stage sessions, exclusively on MEO TV, allowing its customers to watch the event, at home, via their TV service, on the blue button on the MEO remote control, or by selecting it from the Apps Menu, or via position 79 on the channel grid. The Web Summit will also have a media partnership with SAPO, which will broadcast the conferences on the center stage live on the homepage. Throughout the days of the event, there will be exhaustive monitoring of all the topics related to the event, with teams dedicated full-time to producing content, to be made available by the minute in the different editorial areas of SAPO.
