Through the work carried out by Altice Labs, in a project coordinated with Altice Empresas and MEO, the latest XGS-PON optical network technology is now available in Portugal, revolutionizing fixed internet speeds for Portuguese homes and businesses. The MEO and Altice Empresas brands are thus revolutionizing the communication speeds experienced by their customers, both on the internet and on corporate data networks, regardless of their complexity.
Customers of Altice Portugal's brands using this technology have the opportunity to surf at speeds which, with the evolution of equipment and networks, could, in the near future, reach values close to 10 Gbps symmetrical transmission (both download and upload) and numerous even more advanced features that this technology makes possible both in terms of services and in terms of security and encryption of communications. Altice Portugal has guaranteed the installation of XGS-PON equipment in nine Portuguese cities: Aveiro, Braga, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto and Viseu. This ensures the decentralization of the dissemination of the technology, testing it in different contexts and enriching the project.
Despite the geographical spread of this initiative, it was in Aveiro, at the Altice Group's innovation headquarters, that the first steps were taken to bring this technological evolution to fruition: Altice Labs is one of the companies responsible for designing and building the new FiberGateway XGS-PON. This state-of-the-art equipment ensures high speeds, maximum Wi-Fi 6 coverage within home and the best service experience under any circumstances, even when using several devices simultaneously. Altice Portugal will soon be making new services based on XGS-PON technology available to consumers and companies, progressively throughout the country, continuing the pilot project that has just begun.
