Altice Portugal supports João Netto, the first Portuguese to run the world's highest marathon

Reinforcing its long-standing commitment to Portuguese sport, Altice Portugal is once again supporting João Netto, an ultramarathon runner who has covered several continents in highly demanding athletics events. The athlete will soon take the challenge to new heights, becoming, according to the organization, the first Portuguese to take part in the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon, a race that takes place on Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world.

At the age of 45, João Netto decided to challenge himself and become a marathon runner. Since then, the athlete has amassed an extensive record: he won the North Pole Marathon and the Antarctic Ice Marathon in 2017, the World Marathon Majors in 2018, the World Marathon Challenge (seven marathons on seven continents over seven consecutive days) in 2019, the Grand Slam Marathon Members and the InterContinental Marathon Members in 2019. The athlete has been supported by Altice Portugal since 2017.

Alexandre Fonseca, CEO of Altice Portugal, doesn't hide his pride: "this race that João Netto is going to do, also carrying the colors of Altice Portugal, is another example of our support for national sport, for national athletes and for those who overcome themselves, because this is a true example of overcoming, an almost superhuman challenge. This support we give to sport is precisely because these athletes are a true reference for future generations, and with this example they will certainly help to build a better Portugal."

Regarding the company's support, João Netto shares that "Altice Portugal believed in me from the very first moment. Today it's easy for most people and companies to believe, but at the time it was the first project, and this was the company that believed in this project, in our efforts, and believed that it was possible to overcome these limits. The expectation for this race is to be successful once again and to take the National Flag and the Altice Portugal flag to the finish line."

The Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon is an international high-altitude sporting event. The 2022 edition is the 18th edition of this challenging race, which this year celebrates the new increase in the height of Mount Everest following the earthquake in Nepal in 2015. According to the race organizers, João Netto will be the first Portuguese to compete in this marathon, a great source of pride for Altice Portugal and for all the Portuguese.

Altice Portugal has a long tradition of supporting national sport in a wide variety of disciplines, such as surfing, tennis, school sport, motor sport, and its partnership of more than two decades with the Portuguese Football Federation.
