Altice Portugal marks full fiber optic coverage in 39 new parishes in the district of Coimbra

Arganil, Cantanhede, Coimbra, Condeixa-a-Nova, Figueira da Foz, Mira, Oliveira do Hospital, Penacova and Soure. These are the municipalities in Coimbra that have 39 new parishes with full fiber optic coverage from Altice Portugal. This investment comes after Altice Portugal announced more than a hundred parishes with the "100% Fiber Parishes" seal in 2019. Today, more than 6 million Portuguese homes and businesses are covered by Altice Portugal's fiber optics, the widest national fiber optic network. This is the result of an unprecedented investment which, as well as being private, autonomous and totally voluntary, is in the true public interest for Portugal and the Portuguese.

Access to state-of-the-art fiber optics provides territories with unique opportunities for economic and social development, helping to retain populations, generate employment and combat desertification. By boosting local economies, Altice Portugal is contributing to territorial cohesion and increasing the attractiveness and competitiveness of regions regardless of their size or population density.

Optical fiber is a technologically more robust and resilient infrastructure with greater capacity, which opens doors to the possibility of new services and makes it possible to strengthen the quality of the service provided to customers. The moment that marked the handing over of the "Freguesias 100% Fibra" certificates to the representatives of the Municipalities took place in Figueira da Foz, at the end of the show "Portugal tem Fibra - Monólogos da Vacina" by João Baião, in a staging that describes the last two years of the pandemic and highlights the importance that telecommunications had in the lives of the Portuguese during that period. The production is sponsored by Altice Portugal and MEO and will be shown in various venues across the country.
