The 6 finalists for the AItice International Innovation Award 2021 chosen

In addition to having the opportunity to present their projects to a renowned jury during the award ceremony, the finalists in this edition of the Altice Portugal Innovation Award will compete for first place in the categories. The winner of the startups category will receive a cash prize of €50,000 and the chance to carry out a pilot (proof of concept) with the Altice Group, lasting at least 9 months. The winner of the Academy category will receive a cash prize of €25,000.

Gym category
- Simulation of cardiovascular conditions in patient-specific 3D-printed model (authored by Beatriz Maria das Neves Barro): simulation of cardiovascular conditions in 3D models to promote low-cost and easily accessible medical education, training and research.
- ReneWaste (authored by Jônatas Augusto Manzolli): An m-commerce platform for selling and buying waste focused on connecting the end user with waste management companies, seeking to facilitate this process and thus foster recycling and the circular economy.
- Collision Avoidance on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles using Deep Neural Networks (authored by Dário Pedro): conceptual framework focused on unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous and networked, for collision avoidance with small objects, seeking to achieve acceptable levels of safety and reliability.

Startups category
- Glooma: a home and portable medical screening device - SenseGlove - that complements conventional breast self-examination and is connected to a mobile application.
- Smartex.ai: a solution based on AI and computer vision for real-time inspection of textiles, the main objective being to reduce defective production.
- ViBo Health: an intelligent scanner that takes advantage of non-evasive molecular spectroscopy to carry out relevant metabolomic measurements of health, well-being and fitness parameters.

At a ceremony to be held on November 23 at the Estufa Fria in Lisbon, the winners will be chosen by a Grand Jury made up of national figures from the media, startups, academia, public bodies and Portuguese industry:

- Helena Pereira, President of the Foundation for Science and Technology
- Joana Mendonça, President of ANI
- Joaquim Cunha, Executive Director of Health Cluster Portugal
- Licínio Pina, CEO of Crédito Agrícola

In addition to awarding the two prizes that have characterized this Altice Portugal initiative since its inception, this year's edition also includes the "Inclusive by Altice Foundation" prize, worth €15,000. Run by the Altice Foundation, this award is intended to reward work aimed at making information and communication technologies available for digital inclusion, as well as technological accessibility solutions at the service of citizens, particularly those with special needs.

Also for the 5th consecutive year, the National Innovation Agency (ANI) is once again partnering with the AIIA by distinguishing, through the BfK Awards, the best project born from knowledge resulting from Research and Development (R&D) activities, valuing national scientific and technological knowledge and thus contributing to the development of the economy.

For the fifth year running, the National Innovation Agency (ANI) has teamed up with the AIIA to award the BfK Awards to the best project born out of research and development (R&D) activities, particularly collaborative ones. This award aims to promote a culture of valuing national scientific and technological knowledge, rewarding good practices and success stories.
