Altice Portugal signs network and technology investment protocols with local authorities and awards scholarships

As part of the reinforcement of communications networks and their infrastructures, the Chief Technology Officer of Altice Portugal, João Teixeira, visited the Penafiel City Council on Wednesday, where he announced that 90% of the population is covered by the largest and best fiber optic network in the country: that of Altice Portugal.

In addition to expanding and strengthening the resilience of fiber optic infrastructures, new investments were also announced in the mobile network, with the installation of two new base stations in the parishes of Rio de Moinhos and Penafiel.
João Teixeira, Altice Portugal's Chief Technology Officer, believes that "this investment will greatly benefit the population of Penafiel as it provides a higher quality of service and does so from a true public service perspective, bringing an essential good such as telecommunications to the entire population".

Antonino de Sousa, Mayor of Penafiel, said that "this investment means a lot to us because it reflects Altice's willingness to continue to pay close attention to our municipality in this very important area of networks. We are very pleased with this opportunity to sign a protocol that will put our municipality at the forefront of this development".

All the initiatives are the result of a totally private, autonomous and voluntary investment and allow Altice Portugal to continue to fulfill its mission of bringing the best technology and innovation to the whole of Portugal, contributing to a country at one speed.

But as Altice Portugal's DNA is not all about technology and innovation, on Wednesday Altice Portugal also had the opportunity to give another support, this time in the area of Social Responsibility, to an institution with an important role in the area of Education: U-World.

It was through its Chief Corporate Officer, João Zúquete da Silva, that Altice Portugal marked its partnership with the Filhos da Terra project, where it will be the promoter of five scholarships and the technological partner of The Barons Residence university residences, which will host the young winners of the program who are now continuing their studies in higher education.

In its first edition, the Filhos da Terra project is giving 10 young people from various corners of the country the chance to benefit from tuition scholarships, accommodation and all-in-one tutoring.

Altice Portugal believes that education is one of the main pillars of a more democratic and just society, but also of a society that is better prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future. Thus, this commitment to training young people reinforces Altice Portugal's role as an active player in guaranteeing conditions for equal access to education.

Proximity, Investment, Innovation, Quality of Service, Social Responsibility and Sustainability are the pillars that once again set the tone for Altice Portugal's visit, between Wednesday and Thursday, to five districts of the country - Braga, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Lisbon and Porto - and to reinforce its commitment as an engine of social and economic development in the country.
